The Plan

Our 2 Days Uganda Gorilla Tour starts from either Rwanda or Uganda. It is intended for travelers who wish to track the gorillas in Uganda because of the lower costs. Uganda is a cheaper destination for gorilla trekking because a gorilla permit cost $700. Some travelers would rather cross from Rwanda into Uganda to track the gorillas if they cannot afford the $1500 charged for Rwanda gorilla permits. This tour is more practical when a traveler is already in Kigali (Rwanda), Kisoro or Kabale in Uganda. This 2 days gorilla safari will take place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park of Uganda. Bwindi is in a strategic location and because of this can be accessed from both Rwanda and Uganda. The driving time from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable forests is only 4 hours. Driving from Kigali to the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is 3 hours. So for a one hour driving difference, you get to save $800.  It is important to note that from Kampala or Entebbe in Uganda, one needs to drive for about 8 hours to Bwindi. If you are planning to arrive from Entebbe or Kampala, we strongly advise that you check our 3 days Uganda Gorilla tour package.

Itinerary

Day 1Pick up from Kigali in Rwanda – Kigali City Tour – Cross to Uganda

At the earliest time possible, the company guide will pick you up from the airport or your hotel in Kigali to start the journey to Bwindi in Uganda. The journey begins with a Kigali city tour. During this city tour, you will visit the genocide memorial center, the central city market, artisan shops and the former presidential palace. After the city tour, you will be taken for lunch in Kigali before starting the 4-hour journey to Bwindi. Expect to enjoy your journey especially if you love nature and beautiful scenery. Rwanda is a country with thousands of hills and several volcanoes. Uganda is full of beautiful green forest and a lot to see during the drive. Expect to reach Bwindi late in the afternoon. Check in to your lodge, refresh and take a nature walk around.

Accommodation: Gorilla Mist Camp (budget) Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp (Luxury), Bakiga Lodge (Mid-range).

Day 2Gorilla trekking Uganda – Departure through Kigali

This will be an action packed day. You will rise up before dawn and drive to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The briefing is important for many reasons. You get to know about the park, the gorilla groups, what to expect and how to act while in the presence of the gorillas. It is also the time when you can hire a porter and know which gorilla group you would be tracking. After the briefing, you will be led to the starting point and continue deeper into the forest in search of the gorillas under the leadership of the park Ranger. You will trek through the dense forests, valleys, streams before eventually finding the gorilla group. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed to observe them for one hour. Watch as they feed, play around, groom, mate and communicate among themselves. Do not forget to take photos and videos of your time with the primates. Always remember to follow the gorilla trekking rules at all times. After your time with the gorillas, you will be given a certificate of participation before beginning the journey back to Kigali.
