The “Land of a Thousand Hills” is the most magical of places in Africa to visit
Rwanda’s endless mountains create the most impressive scenes throughout this little country but nowhere are they more majestic than the Virunga volcanoes in the northwest. This misty region, filled with bamboo forest, is home to some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. Other attractions include chimpanzees and Rwenzori Colobus in the Nyungwe Forest, the surprisingly beautiful beaches of Lake Kivu as well as Akagera, a wildlife reserve in the east. Each year in June, the country celebrates Kwita Izina (The Baby Mountain Gorilla Naming Ceremony) and people arrive from all over the world to participate in this unique event.
