Bwindi Impenetrable National Park covers 331 sq km of dense montane and lowland forest in the southwestern corner of Uganda. The park is home to approximately 400 mountain gorillas—nearly half the world's population—distributed across several habituated families. The forest itself is ancient, dating back 25,000 years, and harbors extraordinary biodiversity including 348 bird species and 220 butterfly species.
