Experience the best of Rwanda and Uganda on an exclusive primate adventure combining mountain gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, chimpanzee tracking and classic wildlife safari. This carefully designed journey takes you from Kigali through the misty Virunga Mountains and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to the wildlife-rich landscapes of Queen Elizabeth National Park and the primate capital of Kibale.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali → Volcanoes National Park 🇷🇼
Private pickup in Kigali and scenic drive to Musanze/Kinigi. Enjoy the beautiful Rwandan countryside before checking into your premium Virunga lodge. Overnight: Luxury lodge, Volcanoes National Park
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking
Early morning golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Return for lunch and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with an optional cultural or conservation experience. Overnight: Luxury lodge, Volcanoes National Park
Day 3: Rwanda → Uganda → Bwindi 🇺🇬
After breakfast, cross into Uganda through the Cyanika or Katuna border. Continue through the scenic highlands toward Bwindi, with an optional Lake Mutanda experience. Overnight: Premium forest lodge, Bwindi
Day 4: Uganda Gorilla Trekking 🦍
The highlight of the expedition. Trek through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. After the trek, return to your lodge for a well-deserved luxury lunch, relaxation and optional spa treatment. Bwindi is home to roughly half of the world's mountain gorillas. Day 5: Bwindi → Queen Elizabeth National Park 🐘
Scenic journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy an Ishasha wildlife drive if conditions and timing allow, searching for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and the area's famous tree-climbing lions. Overnight: Luxury safari lodge, Queen Elizabeth
Day 6: Safari → Kazinga Channel → Kibale 🦛
Morning game drive followed by the spectacular Kazinga Channel boat cruise. After lunch, continue to Kibale Forest and check into your luxury lodge. Overnight: Luxury forest lodge, Kibale
Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking 🐵 → Departure
Early morning chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, followed by breakfast/lunch and your private transfer to Kigali or Entebbe for your onward flight. Kibale is particularly well suited to this itinerary because UWA identifies it as home to one of Uganda's largest wild chimpanzee populations.
