4-Day Double Gorilla Trek in Uganda
The 4-day double gorilla trek spends two separate mornings with two different gorilla families in Bwindi — the rarest, deepest way to experience mountain gorillas on a Ugandan permit. Starting from Kigali with the Cyanika border crossing, it includes two $800 permits, lodge nights, guiding and transfers, and is the definitive choice for gorilla enthusiasts wanting more than a single hour.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Depart Kigali in the morning by private vehicle for the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, crossing the Rwanda–Uganda border at Cyanika or Katuna. The drive takes you through Rwanda's terraced hillsides and into southwestern Uganda's volcanic landscape. Arrive in the afternoon, check into your lodge near the park, and rest ahead of the first trek. Overnight near Bwindi.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trek
Early morning briefing at the park headquarters, then set out with expert trackers and armed rangers into the forest to find your first gorilla family. Trek times vary from 1–6 hours depending on where the gorillas are that day. Once located, you get one hour with the family — watching, photographing, and taking in one of the most humbling wildlife encounters on Earth. Return to the lodge in the afternoon to rest and celebrate. Overnight near Bwindi.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trek — A Different Family
Head out for your second trek, tracking a different gorilla family in another sector of the forest. Every trek is unique — different terrain, different group dynamics, different individual gorillas to observe. This second encounter often feels even more relaxed, since you already know what to expect from the hike. Afternoon free to rest, explore the local community, or visit a nearby Batwa cultural experience. Overnight near Bwindi.
Day 4: Bwindi to Kigali
After breakfast, begin the drive back across the border to Kigali, arriving in the afternoon in time for onward flights or a Kigali city tour. Trip ends in Kigali.
